Hyster, a leading manufacturer of electric and internal combustion compact industrial vehicles, has just previewed their forthcoming forklift truck. They branded it as the J8.0XN, which they claim as the first 8 tonne model that is capable of delivering a near internal combustion engine or ICE performance.
The forklift was first introduced to the international press and VIPs during the Hyster® HUB event that was held earlier this month in Weeze, Germany. At the show, it was compared to its equivalent ICE truck.
“The new electric J8.0XN provides similar performance to the Hyster® LPG equivalent in most normal paper, timber and steel applications, giving businesses the option for zero emissions and quieter operations,” explained Phil Ireland, Hyster’s Senior Product Strategy Manager.
“It is an 8 tonne capacity forklift that will suit companies with large fleets and will be particularly interesting for timber firms that produce their own electricity. The truck combines Lithium ION with high voltage systems and superior motor technology,” he added.
To be particular, the Li ION battery that is supplied to the forthcoming equipment is large enough to deliver a stable performance over a full production shift before it requires recharging. It can be fully charged in just two hours, yet it can already sustain high levels of endurance throughout its operational life.
Mr. Ireland also noted that the J8.0XN is faster to accelerate over its first 15 metres and can perform lifting applications at the same speed as a Hyster internal combustion engine model. “There is a top speed of 21.4km/h (unladen) and 18km/h (laden) which Hyster claims is a full 4km/hr more than the nearest competitor, while noise levels at the operator’s is just 73 dB(A),” he pointed out.
As far as the price is concerned, sources said that the new J8.0XN will bring a higher cost. But, in the right application, the overall operational costs over the service life of the unit will still be significantly less.
