Babcock International Group recently announced that they use Hyster Tracker, a wireless assessment management solution to achieve automated control of their materials handling operations in Plymouth, United Kingdom. Per reports, the latter aids the former when it comes to managing 80 forklifts and other trucks, which include a newly introduced VNA machine that is deployed in different roles across the Devonport Royal Dockyard and Naval Base site in Plymouth.
Babcock International provides 24/7 support for the biggest naval base in Western Europe, where a majority of their 80 Hyster® forklift trucks operate on a multi-shift basis. The trucks are fitted with Hyster Tracker telematics system to achieve convenient as well as automated fleet management.
“Our trucks have diverse roles across the site as we have almost every type of materials handling operation here, from ship maintenance to logistical ship support,” says Mark Jackson, Logistics Centre of Excellence Manager, Babcock International Group. “Using the Hyster Tracker™ telematics system has automated control of our fleet, helping to support our existing processes which focus on safety and efficiency.”
Also, the Babcock fleet is made up of Hyster® warehouse equipment that range from reach trucks, pallet trucks, and electric counterbalance through to various ICE trucks that include higher capacity lift trucks. A new Hyster® Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) machine was also introduced to work in a store which has a racking of over 10m high, together with the existing Hyster® VNA equipment.
With hundreds of drivers, many of which are skilled in handling different machines within the fleet, Hyster Tracker also ensures that only appropriately trained operators can use the equipment with the use of their RFID site security/ID card. Furthermore, the Hyster Tracker system is specifically designed to transmit a wide array of data from the trucks via GSM. Later on, it can be accessed with the use of Hystertracker.com, a secure online portal that enables clear, customisable reports, graphs and tables that can be viewed and created. The data allow managers to control costs, enhance productivity, and optimise their fleet using accurate business intelligence.
